Rethinking Ocean Mixing in Antarctica’s Shelf Seas
The Ross Sea, a key source of Antarctic Bottom Water driving the global overturning circulation, has heat and freshwater budgets controlled by largely unobserved ocean mixing. Using traditional measurements and emerging acoustic techniques, I examine how horizontal mixing redistributes heat and freshwater across the continental shelf, with preliminary results highlighting its significant role.
