Vis–NIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics for Soil Pollution Assessment: Challenges and Opportunities
Vis–NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics has emerged as a promising tool for rapid and non-destructive assessment of soil pollution. This approach enables the detection and quantification of various contaminants by analyzing the reflectance spectra in the visible and near-infrared range. Despite its advantages, challenges remain regarding model robustness, transferability across regions, and interference from soil matrix effects. Opportunities lie in the integration with remote sensing, machine learning advancements, and large-scale environmental monitoring.
