Rene M. Koenigs, professor of RWTH Aachen University. And his research areas are organic synthesis, photochemistry, carbene transfer reactions, nitrene transfer reactions etc. He studied chemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main from 2002 to 2008. In 2011, he obtained his PhD degree at RWTH Aachen University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Magnus Rueping. In 2011—2013, he worked as a Post-Doc in Lead Optimization Chemistry at Grünenthal GmbH. He then became a head of laboratory at Grünenthal GmbH. Since Oct. 2015, he moved to RWTH Aachen University as a assistant professor. Since May 2022, he has been the professor at RWTH Aachen University. 报告摘要:Carbenes and nitrenes are versatile reactive intermediates that find widespread application in organic synthesis. Their high reactivity, owever, often necessitates the use of metal complexes for stabilization of such species. Herein, we describe our recent approaches towards hotochemical and photocatalytic carbene and nitrene transfer reactions. Strategies in accessing either singlet or triplet carbenes will be discussed and their applications in synthesis methodology will be presented. We commence with a discussion of nitrene intermediates and how these can be accessed under visible light irradiation without the need of conventional metal catalysts. We describe strategies, how the access of nitrene intermediates can be manipulated by single electron transfer reactions or direct photoexcitation. We conclude with a discussion of a collaborative approach towards drug discovery, where fundamental discoveries can be translated into new drugs and medicines.
