- In recent decades, laser material deposition (LMD), also known as laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED), has become widely established in industry for applications such as repair, wear and corrosion protection, and additive manufacturing. Its fields of application include tool and mold making, the automotive sector, turbine components, and general mechanical engineering. Both pulsed and continuous-wave lasers are employed, and the filler material can be supplied in either wire or powder form. In this talk, the long history of development of LMD technology at Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology, Germany, is firstly introduced. Then, latest advancements in hybrid additive manufacturing, extreme high-speed laser material deposition (EHLA), coaxial wire deposition, and the integration of these processes into broader manufacturing chains are presented. Innovations in design of the optical system, powder/wire feeding components, and deposition process are discussed. Finally, success stories of the developed technologies in diverse industry sectors are shared.

Andres Gasser于1993年毕业于德国亚琛工业大学并获得博士学位,自1986年起任职于德国弗劳恩霍夫激光技术研究所(Fraunhofer-ILT),是激光增材制造领域的资深科学家、研究室主任,德国亚琛工业大学兼职教授,亚琛国际涡轮机械制造中心ILT负责人。研究领域涵盖激光技术、表面工程、增材制造(L-DED 和 L-PBF)、材料科学、光学和产品开发、制造技术和工厂工程等,拥有丰富的科学研究与产业应用的经验。
