- This lecture examines how cultural heritage can serve as a powerful catalyst for community engagement, social cohesion and place‑based regeneration. Drawing on a series of case studies from across Great Britain, it will demonstrate how involving local people in the care, interpretation and reuse of heritage assets can generate wide‑ranging benefits — strengthening communities, revitalising neglected areas, and ensuring the long‑term sustainability of historic places. Particular attention will be given to models of participation that create multi‑layered value for society, heritage organisations and the individuals who take part. As well as a better preserved heritage.

报告人介绍：
The lecture will be delivered by Darren Barker, a heritage professional with more than 30 years’ experience in restoration, conservation and community‑led regeneration across the UK and Europe. As Managing Director of Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust, one of the United Kingdom’s leading building preservation charities, Barker has overseen an extensive portfolio of repair projects, conservation initiatives and innovative reuses of vacant or at‑risk historic buildings. His work is distinguished by a commitment to combining high‑quality conservation with meaningful community involvement. He has developed and delivered numerous training programmes in traditional skills in both England and Europe, and lectures widely on heritage‑led regeneration and community engagement. In recognition of his services to heritage, Barker was awarded an MBE medal by Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, this was presented to him by King Charles III in a ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2023.
