简介:
In an era increasingly defined by the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, capturing and utilizing ambient energy sources present transformative opportunities to address global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and energy accessibility. The research interest of Professor Kean Aw of the University of Auckland involves converting ambient mechanical energy into electrical power. His work focuses on three core methodologies: electromagnetic, piezoelectric, and triboelectric energy harvesting. Electromagnetic systems leverage the motion of coils and magnets to generate electricity from vibrations, while piezoelectric materials produce charge under mechanical stress, and triboelectric devices harness friction between dissimilar materials to create power. These technologies efficiently transform mechanical vibrations, human activity, and environmental movements—such as wind, waves, and footsteps—into viable electrical energy, offering decentralized and eco-friendly alternatives to conventional power sources.
